HOLY WEEK 2009

Like all the Catholic parishes all over the world, Dawu Parish celebrated the traditonal Holy Week. That week were opportunites for the 9 chapels to be together in celebrating liturgies. Parishioners were all enthusiastic to participate in the most solemn liturgy of the year.

Asia-Pacific Visitors Meeting in Taiwan

Last March 16-21, 2009, the APVC met in Taipei to discuss some matters on inter-provincial collaboration. The Provincial Visitors of Southern and Northen India, China, Indonesia, Philippines and the Regional Superior of Vietnam were all present. The Visitor of the Australian Province was not present due to some domestic matters that need to be solved. Serafin Peralta, the APVC secretary was also around.

After 2 days of intense meeting, they went down to Taidong and Kaosiung last March 18, 2009, to visit confreres and see some of our ministries and works. After a 2-day break, they were back on the meeing table to continue their discussions.

AT LAST, A NEW PAIWAN ABORIGINEE PRIEST!

After waiting for almost 20 years, a new Paiwan aboriginee was ordained priest last January 1, 2008.

Six Vincentian priests attended that big celebration attended by more than 3 thousand faithful. The ordination was held in Jinlun Parish which is a Vincentian adminsitered mission-parish. Why in Jinlun? Because Fr. Xie Hui Nan is native of Tuban Village, part of Jinlun Parish.

Midnight Mass at Dawu Parish

One with the whole world in celebrating the eve of Christmas, Dawu Parish celebrated the Midnight Mass with a solemn Mass and a baptism of 7 children.

During the gospel, the children from Anshuo and Nantian Chapels played the Nativity story. A good way of making the message of the story reach to the faithful.

Dawu Parish Celebrates the Christmas Season

Eventhough Taiwan may not be as lively as other countries in celebrating Christmas, yet in Dawu Parish the atmosphere is quite different. They made a giant christmas tree that is visible to commuters. The place is well-lighted and vibrant.

The parish encourage every chapel to decorate with christmas lights the church to show to everybody that we are celebrating Christmas in non-christian place.

The parish also held a manger-making contest to encourage each chapel to do their best in making Christmas alive.

2008 Dawu Children’s Christmas Party

Last December 13, 2008 Dawu Parish held their yearly Lighting of Christmas Lights and Children’s Christmas Party. Though it rained, the children were not prevented from having fun.

When they saw Santa Claus, everybody was full of excitement. This year’s Santa Claus was Richard Preuss! See the pictures.

Pilgrimage Tour to Philippines by Dawu Parish Leaders

Last Novemebr 29 to December 6, 7 parish leaders went to the Philippines for a pilgrimage tour led by Fr. Dandy. They went to the the different churches and tourist spots in Manila. They also visited Payatas and the Vincentian Seminary.

After visiting Manila, they went to Cebu and Bohol for another pilgrimage tour. They enjoyed the old churches and the beautiful sceneries in those places.

Among the activities that the pilgrimage tour offered, it was the buying of liturgical materials that they liked most.

TAIDONG FAMVIN CELEBRATE SVP

Last September 27, 2008, the Vincentian Family in Taidong (CM, DC, SSVP and AIC) gathered in Dawu for the yearly celebration of SVP. Around 250 people participated in the celebration including the filipino migrants. A Mass was first held, presided by Fr. Richard Preuss, before having their lunch and program.

CONFRERES IN THE SOUTH CELEBRATE SVP

Last September 25, 2008, the confreres in the south organize a simple gathering of confreres to celebrate the feast of SVP. They all gathered in Kaoshiung where 12 cofreres from Kaoshiung House, Tainan House and Hze House attended. 4 D.C. sisters and the Bishop of Kaoshiung also were with us.

A simple liturgy was prepared before going to a restauran nearby where they have lunch.
